Embassy Press Release

Transcript of media interaction by Foreign Secretary on assuming charge

Question: Mr. Jaishankar, you’ve just taken over as Foreign Secretary of India. First of all the appointment, does it come as a surprise because of the suddenness of it? What are your three biggest challenges over the next two years?

Foreign Secretary: As I take over, I am happy to work with all of you. I know that media is an important part of our Foreign Policy projection. So, I don’t think this is the time to get into to those kinds of questions. I really thank you all for being here today. I value your good wishes and I am sure we will have lot to do with each other.

Question: Can you outline your priorities? Will the neighbouring countries be the priority? Will the west be the priority or Look East?

Foreign Secretary: My priorities are the government’s priorities. So, I think at this time let’s leave it at that. So, once again I thank you all for coming. This is a big responsibility. I would say that I am very honoured that I have been assigned this responsibility. I look forward to working with all of you. Thank you.
