Pioneering technology to clean oil contaminated sites discussed

The CEO of ONGC-TERI Biotech Ltd (OTBL), Dr Banwari Lal, called on Indian Ambassador H.E. Ajai Malhotra to brief about his company's bioremediation and microbial enhanced oil recovery services. OTBL combines the strengths of ONGC, a Fortune Global 500 company, and TERI, a prestigious institute developing state of the art technologies. Ambassador Malhotra was informed about the bioremediation and eco-restoration demonstration project that had effectively cleaned up a 4,900 sq. mt. tar sludge contaminated site in Burgan South, Kuwait, using KT-OILZAPPER, a customized technology that utilizes naturally occurring microbial strains indigenous to Kuwait. The patented OILZAPPER bioremediation process, using indigenous microbes based on type and level of contamination and local geo-climatic conditions, has received international acclaim and has bio-remediated 200,000 metric tonnes of petroleum wastes till date.
