Indian Ambassador welcomes good response to amnesty Since March 1, 2011, the Indian Embassy in Kuwait, has extended amnesty related services to 7,900 Indians, received 6,200 applications for Emergency Certificates (ECs), prepared 5,000 ECs and already delivered 3,000 ECs. While persons visiting the Embassy for amnesty related services peaked at 1,200 per day during the first week of March, their number has now dipped to 100 per day.
The Ambassador of India, HE Mr Ajai Malhotra, welcomed the good response to the amnesty. He recalled that guidelines for Indian nationals to avail of the amnesty were widely circulated by the Indian Embassy on March 1, 2011, and were available on its web-site in Hindi, English, Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu. He reminded that the form for an Emergency Certificate to travel to India could be completed online, printed from the Embassy website (www.indembkwt.org) and brought to the Embassy. It was available for free at the Embassy, which was also providing a free service to fill it up. In the vast majority of cases, the Embassy was now issuing the EC within 3 to 4 days of application.
Ambassador Malhotra reaffirmed that the Indian Embassy would be very happy to bear the air ticket cost for travel to India in the case of any destitute Indian who was unable to find the means to do so. He also noted that special air fares were available for those who would like to travel to India while availing of the amnesty. Reminding that the amnesty would end on June 30, 2011, the Ambassador urged any remaining Indian nationals who still needed to regularize their residency status in Kuwait to do so at the earliest or to avail of the amnesty to return to India.
