Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2008
The sixth edition of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD), the
annual conference of the Indians abroad, will be held in New Delhi on 7-9
January 2008. The Conference is being organized by the Ministry of
Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA) of the Government of India. The
Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) will be the institutional Partner.
The event includes a two-day conference and a Trade & Industry Exhibition.
The prestigious Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards will be conferred on the
recipients during the Valedictory session of this event. The Conference
venue is Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. Various central Ministers and Chief
Ministers from various states are expected to participate in this event.
The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) is the annual flagship event of the
Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs in recognition and appreciation of the
constructive, economic and philanthropic role played by the Indian
Diaspora. The event aims to connect more than 25 million overseas Indians
and to bring their expertise and knowledge to India and integrating it
into India’s development process.
As in the previous years, around 2000 delegates are expected to
participate in the event. The theme for this year’s event will be
“Engaging the Diaspora: the way forward”. It will focus on social sectors,
including education, healthcare, women, infrastructure and investment. It
is carrying on the tradition of having state-specific sessions in which
various States will showcase their investment opportunities. Another
interesting feature of the event will be the sessions on geographical
regions, which have large concentrations of overseas Indians like Gulf,
South/South East and East Asia, Europe, Africa and Americas.
A separate website for PBD 2008
www.pbdindia.org has been launched. The
online registration of delegates for the event can be done through

For the first time, the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2008 will also host a
market Place/Meeting Place being organized by the Overseas Indian
Facilitation Centre (OIFC), a public private partnership of the Ministry
of Overseas Indian Affairs and the Confederation of Indian Industry, which
will be a complimentary service to all the delegates. Participants can
